Los Angeles, USA — A man in wheelchair was declared dead on the scene after being struck and pinned underneath by a pick-up truck. Furthermore, police say the two men are actually good friends.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reports that the incident took place around 7:43 a.m. in the city of Commerce.
Authorities identified the victim as a 54-year-old man in a wheelchair named Richard Gutierrez.
Moreover, community members claimed Mr. Gutierrez was an usher at a church. He was crossing the street at the time of the accident.
Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene. They found the victim pinned under a large pickup truck.
A close friend, Charles Imperial, claimed that the coincidence of the driver and victim being friends made the loss even more shocking.
“The guy in the truck, he ran over the guy in the wheelchair,” Mr. Imperial said. “The truck is so high and the wheelchair is so low. It’s just unbelievable. I guess he just didn’t see him.”
Police ruled out the possibilities of drugs and alcohol involvement in the incident. Additionally, investigators believe the collision was an accident.
The truck driver remained on scene and cooperated with authorities.
