A new handicap accessible playground will be open on Byerly Park that is located in Hartsville, SC. The playground will be located between the track and field and tennis court areas of the park.
This playground will be an expansion for Garrison’s Place. Garrison’s Place originally is located just outside Neptune Island Waterpark. It originally opened June 2014 after local families started a campaign. The campaign’s focus is about “Special Play for Special Kids”.
The Hartsville City Manager emphasized the importance of play for the social and physical skills development of children. The improvement of the nautical-themed playground includes a ramp-style access for the several slides and other playground features.
“We are excited of what the expansion of inclusive playground equipment will bring to the children in Hartsville,” said Hartsville City Manager Natalie Zeigler during the press release.
Playground Amenities
The newly built handicap accessible playground will include swings, two strapped swings, rail-ramps, and climbing panels. There would also be wheelchair swings, seven slides, and a handicap accessible glider. There would also be other various activities that will allow the children to experience and develop skills through several music and mental exercises.
The Byerly Foundation originally funded Garrison’s Place in 2014. The new playground was awarded by a matching grant from Land and Water Conservation Fund and the City of Hartsville.
Let us hope that there would be more handicap accessible playgrounds for children in the future.
